Probably the hardest part of ...

... lots of things! Distilling down what you've got to offer into a compelling elevator pitch is a skill needed in many professions, not just sales.

    A terrible elevator speech

Maybe it's just me, but I thought that was a terrible elevator speech. He opened his mouth and all I heard was "blah blah blah." To think he actually does this for a living. My suggestion to the expert: Make it shorter. Make the person visualize what you do. Turn your feature and benefits into passive questions that the person answers in their head (this creates a dialog even if the prospect isn't talking).

For example, "Have you ever heard someone try to give an elevator speech that was... let's say... less than interesting?" (prospect usually nods yes) "Well, we work with companies to create elevator speeches that are engaging and effective."

An interested prospect will then ask a question. An disinterested prospect won't, regardless what you try to cram into his ears. I suppose you could follow this up with a "gotcha question," but I've found this adds unnecessary pressure and may stifle the prospect's natural curiosity.

    ITS YOU! LOL

Yeah its you, I thought the elevator speech was great. With twenty five years of experience in direct sales it is a great way to introduce yourself to prospects any time. The key is that its just an introduction!

    RE: Elevator Speech

Way too much information....spoken much too quickly. Even on the second hearing, it was too dense. Spoken more slowly, with some breathing room for the listener to digest the stream of information would have produced more memorable "bits" which is the beginning of engagement.
