Dave Johnson
Over the past 20 years, Dave Johnson has written three dozen books (including the best-selling How to Do Everything with Your Digital Camera), co-hosted a weekly call-in radio show, and covered technology for a long list of magazines that include PC World and Wired. As his neighbors can attest, he also plays drums.

Anyone who gives presentations on a regular basis recognizes the value of a good “air mouse,” which lets you control your slideshows wirelessly as you move around the room.

Instead of buying and bringing extra gear, why not go the app route? Mobile Air Mouse turns your iPhone into an air mouse, perfect for remotely controlling presentations (and your PC).

The app leverages the iPhone’s accelerometer to control your mouse cursor and offers a variety of media- and Web-control buttons. It also provides a full keyboard, complete with function and arrow keys.

MAM relies on Wi-Fi to communicate with your Windows or Mac PC (the required server utility is available for both platforms), but it can also work over 3G if necessary.

Want to see the app in action? Check out CNET’s video review of Mobile Air Mouse. When you’re done, you’ll almost certainly want to make a beeline to the App Store, where Mobile Air Mouse –normally $5.99 — is currently on sale for $1.99 [iTunes link].

Either way it’s a steal, as you could easily pay upwards of $150 for a traditional air mouse that does a lot less.

That's pretty cool. I guess I wouldn't be able to use it on say
my PS3 though?
