@Marc_B Information is important, but it must be coupled with something else. I'm a huge fan that they are required to disclose the nutritional info--don't you want to know what you're putting into your body. What people do with the info is a whole other story.

I really love the "Eat This, Not That" series of books because it illustrates that you can still go out and eat, but it helps you become more conscious about what you're eating. The premise of these books are that you can still eat fast-food, but you can do it a little smarter.

Thanks for your comments . . .

@Marc_B I hesitated writing this article. I don't want you to be discouraged one bit. Are ideas stolen? Sure they are? Did BofA? Who knows? There are a whole lot more entrepreneurs who build great businesses than there are ideas stolen. The chances are slim that you're idea will be taken by Goliath, but even if they are, you still might "win" in the end.

Ouch! This article illustrates my greatest fear, that whatever million dollar idea I have will eventually be railroaded by either a major corporation or a patent troll. Personally, rather than go into business for myself, I think I'd rather "sell" my ideas to individuals willing to take all the necessary risks while leaving me the freedom to actually follow through with the actual vision. But I guess that might be a different worldview.

Oren is the exception, not the rule. The majority of indy films shot on a low budget completely fizzle out. If anything, Paranormal once again shows the complete power of viral marketing which can catapult films into enormous profits. BWP ($35k film budget, $25m marketing campaign for around $250m box office take) and Cloverfield (est. $25m budget (?), $200m box office take) definitely prove that rule. The face of advertising has certainly changed and favors the savvy indy films that are marketed as having popular support, regardless of actual quality.

I always thought it was a completely useless piece of legislation. When it comes to health, people just don't care if it means giving up a pleasurable activity. And I completely agree. Sure, if I engage in poor dietary habits AND live a sedentary life-style, I might end up in bad shape around retirement age. Or I might get killed in a car crash next week. Honestly, there are far worse things for your health than having a value meal once or twice a week.

Thanks for sharing again Robert.

I strongly believe there are lots of brilliant people among us with wonderful ideas sparkling almost daily (maybe several times a day!). The problem is that since there are so many, why only a few faces managed to be shown on Forbes?

Many would said they lack of time & resources, bla bla bla...... Just answer one simple question: Who should hold the fortune with the idea? If you don't do it, sooner or later someone else will.

If time is as precious as money and mind is the power, the only difference is merely whether to do it or not.

@immaterialgirl It sounds like you are taking yourself out of the game before it even starts. Lots of ideas are great, but take it a step further. Spend a bit of time researching to see if someone else is doing it already (my Change for the World research took about 10 minutes). Keep a list of viable ideas, and then when you have a couple of hours, research all of them at once. Sometimes you'll find that someone else is already doing something similar, but you'd be surprised. All it takes is one good idea. Since time is short, consider partnering with someone else and using their other 8 hours to help you execute.

Thanks for the thought provoking article! Because I have the entrepreneurial blood in me, I often have many ideas... but that's generally where in stops, in my head. One, I usually think, if I thought it, somebody else has probably already beat me to it. Two, as a mother of three under the age of five, time is not as plentiful to investigate the idea's viability and to draw out a business plan, or even pursue it beyond that point.

Someday...

Robert, totally agree with you and one of the best ways to create your best possible life is to actually do a visioning session prior to Dream Board or Vision Board Creation. Visioning is a cross between soul searching, meditation and improv -- so it's much more powerful than just day dreaming! It's been used by visionaries ranging from Leonardo daVinci to Walt Disney. To see a free chapter of the best-selling book THE VISION BOARD which shows 100 full color examples of vision boards (also called dream boards or wish boards some time) go to http://tinyurl.com/seeinsidebook Hope to meet you sometime PS Loved your story on Paranormal Activity!
