RE: Talkbiznow Targets Business Networking
This is an insightful interview.
But I am afraid that the statement Martin Warner makes about his being the World's first business networking site is also riddled with holes.
Even if you accept what he says about LinkedIn and XING -- that they are more network for people is business rather than tools for getting business done -- my own company WeCanDo.BIZ had a business networking site live several months before Talkbiznow, having launched our public beta in early April. We ame out of this test phase and went live properly at the end of May, still months ahead of Mr Warner's site, which I note as of 15 September is still in its testing phase.
I have to agree with Eric Sherman's assertion that their PR machine does seem to pump stuff out without checking whether anything they are saying is correct. I hope their prospectus to potential investors has a more credible base behind it.

RE: Talkbiznow Targets Business Networking
It always intrigues me when a newcomer to an
established space such as business networking feels
the need to call themselves "first." We've been building
Biznik, a business
networking community, from Seattle for over three
years, and we were far from first. A local competitor,
href="http://www.zoodango.com">Zoodango.com>, said the same thing when they launched a couple of
years ago, and actually got some press to pay
attention, briefly. Maybe that's why people continue to
do it - because it sounds good and some press will
bite.
Anyone who has been in the business networking
industry for any length of time knows one thing:
successful business networking is all about building
trust. In fact, any business getting started in this social
media landscape is going to need the trust of their
customers, and making overly bold claims isn't exactly
the best way to get it.
The fact is, "business networking" is a massive
potential market, with plenty of room for healthy
competition. Adding some project management tools
to the application sounds like an interesting idea. I
question whether advertising on a social network of
any kind will be able to support the model, though. We
tried advertising on Biznik with abysmal results. The
membership model is paying off for Biznik, though -
we doubled in size and in revenue in the first six
months of this year.
Kudos to you, Erik, for asking the tough questions in
your article.

RE: Talkbiznow Targets Business Networking
It would be good to get an update from Talkbiznow on how they are doing on that 3 million subscriber number now they are half-way through the 6 month target period.
This Compete chart seems to suggest that did well with the PR around launch, but it's not gone so well since:
