RE: Is a Temporary Team Leader the Right Answer?

A lame duck leader doesn't really inspire me. This person has no real stake in the outcome. The amount of time it'll take to truly ramp someone up would require a lengthy commitment, in my opinion. If someone comes in for 6 months or a year only to be on his or her way with a "my work here is done" on the way out, I'm going to have less confidence in the people that made the decision to hire them in the first place.

    On the other hand...

Bringing in a person who can act almost as a consultant WITH vested interest to solicit internal opinions and bring an outside view may be warranted in taking a firm or department to the next level. Especially if the team leader position's internal "successor" isn't readily apparent or when it's clear that an extended external search is needed to fill the new role.

Then one successful tactic is for the interim position to lay out findings allowing the new manager to review, then own the findings and lay out the plan to execute the findings.

I think that a temporary tl is a bad idea. Lack of loyalty and commmitment will negate any so called advantage that might acrue due to his perceived competence

I think there could be specific scenarios (and limits) for both kinds of team leads.

Also, the way the team responds to a temporary team lead will show how much they want to achieve the business goals hurdles notwithstanding, and will show whether they have the maturity to overcome their personal insecurities and get the show on the road.

RE: Is a Temporary Team Leader the Right Answer?

I think this is not a bad idea. according to the cost reduction and goal oriented point of view it is fine and this step has make the future leader that lead the organization but the basic objective and principles is not fulfilled.so we prefer to took the permanent leader to lead the team.
