RE: Five Tips for Negotiating With a New Hire
A good offer really does aim at the potential employee understanding the total package, how each part is of value, and why.
We like tothink that retention is begins wit the offer so let it look both short term and long term, relating each to the candidate. Salary is the most obvious but the real incom package is not.
Former pay is also irrelevant. Its the worth of the job and its contribution that should set the salary. We allget asked what we made before and we all hate that question because we expect a leap in income as part of why we are making achange. -

Tips for the manager making an offer for employment - the other side
This is good to know from the potential hiree's side of the negotiation table. I am grateful I received negotiation coaching from Chandler-Hill Associates during a final "back-end" of closing my employment negotiation.
It made a big difference for not only me but some of my assoiciates as they found out my compensation and over the years did what they could to catch up with me.
I think that when the going gets tough the tough get a coach to enforce a little external discipline, believe me those on the other side of the table have plenty of help. We, being hired, also need, at least as much discipline as they have.
