  I'm going to be courageous too. Unfortunately, sexual preferance issues are taking priority over floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, and practically everything- can the pain of being with the on you love and not getting married be as deep as the agony of poverty, disaster survival, etc. I think not.
  
  In the midst of Katrina and the Hurrricanes Ford Motor company took on the issue of Gay marriage and spent large sums of money on Gay parades when dead bodies were floating through the streets of Lousiana- Despair so horrible that the gay parade made a family of 7 never buy another Lincoln. The gay issue is nothing comapred to the agony of hunger, death, total loss of ones entire life and those they love.
  
  Pease get the big picture... Your sexual preferences do not belong in the press or attached to a business... has anyone seen Ford stock prices since they paid (approxsimately $100,000) for a gay parade as bodies floated through the streeets of New orleans... or the super Dome becane an unspeakable health hazard to those just trying to survive...
  
  Still the earth is still rocking and rolling under floods and all that they can think about is their sex life and getting married.
  How many people and families and businesses are they willing to sacrifice so they can get married.
  
  If you must stand then stand but do not affiliate your political, and sexual preferences with a business... stand in your own name.

  Stewart wasn't the one linking his brand or place of employment to his political issue. The media did that. And we have no information about what he has done or not done to address other social issues besides gay marriage.

  although i still enjoy your articles and adore your overall style with the public and the personal, tactful touch in your writing, i must concur (WHOLEHEARTEDLY) with mbtompkins on this one.
  
  you see, at first, before i actually read the body of the article and only saw the title, i thought to myself: wow - an important business person, someone with such an important professional position, is being unselfish and doing something positive that will help mankind or is a step in the right direction for the nation amid its financial crisis, ongoing war, homelessness, terrorism, poverty, unemployment,.... (shall i go on???).... wow! WHAT A HERO!
  
  then, as i read further, i just about fell over! and as soon as i read the short paragraphs that detailed a purely selfish (in my humble opinion) move to fight for something that is really not going to help the suffering (noun) nor my future nor that of my children, i really almost fell over!
  
  the wording in the article's title was misleading, almost making the man sound like a hero! sorry, but, what a waste of space and time. this was ALMOST as important as BNET providing news of Madonna adopting a child from another country (sarcasm)!
  
  it would be nice if things (ahhemm, titles and articles) were presented in an objective manner, unbiased, and therefore allow me, the reader, to form my own conclusions.
  
  sorry, but in this case, i care not about this man's (or anyone's) sexual preferences and how far or to what extent the person is willing to go to get the rest of society to redefine marriage as it has known it historically and traditionally. what's next? an article about some wealthy, well-known CEO who also quits his day job to fight for polygamy because he truly loves all of his girlfriends equally??? (hey, equal rights!??! in fact, some people really love their dogs or cats so much that.... well, we won't go there. but, you get the point.)
  
  again, this is only my humble opinion, stated as tactfully as possible (with an attempt at some humor). i am still a fan of your insight and not going anywhere anytime soon!

  I think most of the commenters here are missing a really important point. Why is the government (and the people pushing the legislation) wasting time deciding who can and can't get married instead of addressing poverty, hunger, etc? The CEO wouldn't need to spend (or waste depending on your view) his time defending against an anti-gay marriage amendment if people weren't so easily distracted by a non-issue. Why aren't the anti-gay marriage folks out helping the poor, the needy, the hungry? Because that's hard and might require real time, effort or money. But worrying about who marries who? That's easy...just open your ignorant, biased mouth to protest and you can feel like you are part of something.
