Turning the anniversary of a bridge into something personal
A few years back I was contracted by the Royal Gorge Bridge & Park to publicize the 75th anniversary of the construction of the Royal Gorge Bridge, an engineering marvel that spans the Royal Gorge, just outside of Canon City, Colorado. How to personalize this? One of the ways was to send out a "Recall Notice," asking for Royal Gorge Bridge recollections from folks in the Colorado area. Winning entries received a "piece of history," a memento made from one of the wooden planks that are replaced every few years for safety purposes. The emails and letters received were incredible -recounting first dates, meeting that special someone at the bridge, special family outings in the old roadster - were just some of the wonderful reminiscences received. Many of the letters were hand written, in the scratchy cursive writing of folks in their eighties and nineties. All were posted on the attractions web site and the top ones were sent to the local media.

Bravo!
Thanks for the anecdote -- that's a perfect example of the power of storytelling!

RE: The Power of Storytelling and the Decline of the Mainstream Media
Ahhhh...Yes an innocent mistake was certain proof of exactly that recently when I had "Prospected" a potential client many weeks before for a Nutritional Company and he phoned and asked "How everything was going?"...I could not be stopped from relaying the wonderful heartfelt stories I had had related to me over those ensuing weeks and 10 mins later came up for air to find the Prospect mesmerized and wanting to know more. It was only later I found out he had called me with the intention of Prospecting Me into another Company but changed his mind with the Power of My Storytelling.
