strike date
The strike started in 1994 and canceled the 1994 World Series-- not the 1995 World Series.

RE: Baseball Inc.: The Genesis
The football association in the UK has a similar semi-legal monopoly over soccer which has been used to beat up the fans and incidentally the TV franchises for exorbitant amounts of cash.
The traditional support base for soccer, the blue collar young man can no longer afford to regularly watch the premier clubs such as Manchester United and Liverpool. It can take a week's wages to gain entry into these stadiums for 90 minutes. These top clubs have become havens of corporate entertainment and middle management relaxation. Much to the detriment of the atmosphere at the stadiums.
The poor kids fall back on TV sport, or more likely they lose interest altogether and get their entertainment from cans or street drugs.
Soccer clubs used to provide a community based facility that gave us all a once a week escape into fantasy.
Now we have crime instead. -

How did the game swell to such massive cash amounts? Every day game has tons of empty seats in nearly every stadium... Concessions are now serviced by non-profits who get a scant of the revenue and use volunteers to work the counters... With billions in revenue WITH empty seats, in what way is the MLB and professional sports in general giving back to the community? Taxes? Surely that's a joke as most teams lobby to get new stadiums subsidized by taxpayers...
Baseball is a fun game to watch and the stadium experience is excellent, but taking the whole family to the game costs as much as buying a brand new TV...
Am I really angry for no reason? -

For only 160+ days of work and the internet, this is a great business model. With the popularity of sports, the revenues will continue to grow!

Hardly the case. Sports professionals work year round. If you are in sales you are always selling during the season and out of it. Especially with minor league caliber teams, those people work crazy hours and are responsible for 10x any other job. Plus on top of it all the pay in sports is horrible!! Many work the entire time they are in the position unsecure of their future. Lots of work, little rewards. Except in some very unique situations.
I've worked in sports half of my professional career. Just my $.02.
