Delta Tells Mesa to Take Its 50 Seaters Elsewhere
Okay. Let's get this right. We are going to start seeing the loss of service using 50 (or even 75 seat) seat aircraft because of poor on-time performance. What is the standard for poor??? Look at Northwest who used to be very good but has slipped and Delta big jets have not posted a stellar record. We do not even want to talk about United. I believe this is all about competition for $$$ and regional jets are taking the hit. The real losers are the smaller airport centers where the passengers (read: clients) need the service and will be forced 75 to 200 miles (at $4+ for a gallon of gasoline) for a big jet with expensive seats (getting more expensive as the demand increases because of the loss of regional jets, but we will blame that on fuel won't they. The airline Pilots Association is against regional jets as well). How does Southwest maintain profitability using an airplane (Boeing 137) that most airlines do not want? This airplane can go into many of the same airports the Regional jets go into but competitive rules enforced by the FAA and local airports restrict SW from competing. Sarcastic mood for a rainy Friday in PA.
