Do You Want More Voice Recognition?

Voice recognition
I am a big proponent of voice recognition. I always have the vision of HAL from 2001 in my head. My fantasy is to speak to HAL and send emails etc without typing. When the solution appears (and I think it will be soon) I will be all over it like white on rice

RE: Do You Want More Voice Recognition?
I have used voice recognition over the years. I still do an outline of my thoughts on paper before "dictating" to the computer. The key to effective VR is not to look at the screen while doing it. The idea is that some of us want to stop and fix the spelling or puncuation erros immediately. I do not "dictate" when people are around as a courtesy.
To me the most beneficial function is on my Palm where I can record a things to do or idea and set a reminder time.

RE: Do You Want More Voice Recognition?
Great idea!!! Been hoping for it for a long time. Two problems though as I see it. Commands must be learnt to run the darn thing and the precision is not yet at a high state.
We'll get there though. Good possibility so will the price. -

Voice Recognition
I have used voice recognition on my phones for some time. My Pantech (verizon) uses Windows mobile and I tell it to dial someone in my Outlook contact list and I can even specify mobile, home, work phones etc. It works 99% of the time unless I mumble something or if there are other loud noises in the room. I don't use VR for the other menu stuff, because I don't need to, but for dialing out - its perfect.

VR for English speakers only?
I don't have much experience using PC VR tools, but my opinion is: they have a chance to become popular as soon as they will be able to recognize voice... The same goes for mobile gadgets. For example, my SonyEricsson guesses only 50% of what I'm saying, though my previous Nokia did it well!
The last VR tool I've been testing was Microsoft Speech Recognition (as a part of Windows Vista Ultimate) and I should say that it does it's job great! Even when I'm working at night and have to say words very quietly it understands about 95%.
And one more: as English is not my native language, I think it's a big shortcoming for most VR tools is that they are developed for English speakers only. -

VR, Sales , and CRM
In the sales world, having VR would be a huge advantage especially as verey company races to embrace a CRM focus and the technology solutons that support it. Salespeople, by nature, are not always adept keyboarders (especially the old school veterans that are really valuable to most firms), and, by role and areas of responsibility, hold the best and richest customer information.
Finding a solution that allows them to share their information, in spite of their techological limitations, while seeing as many customers as possible is something I have been dreaming of since we implemented our CRM technology.
VR could be that solution. I can't wait!
