RE: On Merrill and Lehman, Hank Paulson Makes the Right Move

The wall street greed and the excesses of the finance executives have combined to finally bring home the point: There is a limit to all this. What has happened to all the sophisticated risk management models which were supposed to minimize the risks and in time! It is time to return to the more conservative ways of doing the business and restore the sanity in the financial markets. We have suffered enough of the tremors so far, with all the financial giants falling like nine-pins.

Is there any talk of NOT rewarding the CEOs at Freddie and Fannie with million-dollar parting gifts? This is the part I find most offensive.

In Amercian Small Business, the CEO/Owner is always held accountable for the decisions they make, good bad or indifferent. Corporate America has forgotten this requirement and greed has taken over.
Corporate Officers must be held accountable for thier actions and decisions. Share holders must demand better from thier "elected" representatives. (Sound familar, maybe we should hold our elected politicians responsable.)

Everything in moderation... Depeche Mode were wrong - everything does not count in large amounts! The problems of this world today are largely due to excessive consumption by humans, greed, and so on. It's time for those that really cause all this to be brought to light. Humans need to understand that they're not the only inhabitants of this planet. People should be doing the basics; and doing them well!!!

Do all these indicate that free market capitalism too has its flip side? How did the finance whizkids give a go by to the old wisdom of distributing their risk? How can one market failure affect the financial service organization so badly? How do these advocates of free market expect a federal bail-out at times of crisis? Do we have any lesson to leran for the future
