  Nothing wrong with Lou Dobbs

  While I generally agree with you on the CSX issue, I can also understand the counter-argument. If our freight transportation market was full of healthy competitors, CSX would just be another company. But they do haul the lion's share of freight throughout the country as well as own and maintain significant percentage of the rail network itself. If we only had American Airlines as our national carrier, would you want it in the hands of a foreign entity however benign today? While it may be too paranoid to think that way, there is a valid argument however flawed.
  
  Regarding Lou Dobbs himself, he does his best to support our national interests, and I'm a fan. "Vile" are the idiots who would rather see our country's wealth drained by the oil-producing nations of the world than to leverage what we have in our own backyard, who'd rather import than export, outsource than insource. There is a difference between being nationalistic and jingoistic.
  
  Finally, Dobbs NEVER speaks out against "hard working immigrants"--just the illegal kind. Get your facts straight, stick to the story, and refrain from ad hominem attacks.

Yes, BEFORE California got taken over like the rest of America by the mentally insovent. I guess your people seem to never come to any amicable conclusions on your own without raising guns.   Broad generalization about things a hundred years ago do not necessarily equate to the same situation today. Also investing money in a stock/company and wanting to also have (controlling) members on the board are also quite different - - It has occurred often in recent times that a hostel board member (the US has several) pushes for his own (often short term return) agenda that is not necessarily in the best interest of the majority of the stock holders.

  You missed the points by a mile (or km)

  1) Dobbs does not say he wants foreigners out. Just illegal ones.
  2) The "national interest" part is not foreigners working for US company... it's foreigners gaining CONTROL of a vital US infrastructure.
  3) CSX is not a foreign company in US, so how is that analogous to a US company overseas?
  
  There are no problems with foreign investment, and no problems with foreign companies doing business in the US, and no problems of foreign control of US businesses, as long as that control is not over a critical aspect of national security. Many other countries around the world protect their vital infrastructure in the same way. Why shouldn't the US be allowed to the same?

  Points well made and taken

  Lou Dobbs does make relevant points as a couple of people have posted. The Soldier posting knows what he's talking about; as do others. CSX transpo is vital to our country logistically and should be secure for national interests. Neglecting the importance of who the board members are and represent is naive. It is also reactionary and avoidable. Good points were made about this already in regard to foreign investment and foreign countries and our interaction with them.
  
  Yoo....(forgive me not getting your name complete or correct) and the Soldier also make relevant points about this issue along with Lou in regard to illegal and legal immigrants. I don't have a problem with "legal" immigrants either. Illegal immigrants are a continuous problem. They compose an 11 - 12 million population base that is a considerable, (maybe even terrorist) future problem. Don't be deceived because of narrow mindedness or your own limitations.
  
  The bottom line here is that along with Lou, some of us do perceive this issue as a real, national force protection threat. We recognize it and understand this because it truly is. Thanks Lou!

  I live in an area where many careless owners walk their dogs. When confronted with what we now call a "Lou Dobbs"on the sidewalk, we just avoid it and go about our business. Our local "Lou's" just dry up and blow away. Don't know what to do about the real problem though.

  And I don't see you having a solution. Using illegal immigrants is not the answer, either. I'm not saying I have one to offer, but you see it as a problem about getting food to the table cheaply, but holistically speaking, it costs us in so many other ways, perhaps a LOT more than an extra $1000/yr in grocery bills.
  
  Illegal immigrants, however, ARE a potential security risk to this nation, aside from them being a drain on our resources (which in itself a risk to the sustainability of our infrastructure). Dobbs is right and fair to take the position that you can't just look the other way because it's expedient, regardless of where they are coming from, and you can't say one type of illegal alien is better than another. That's why we have laws, and laws can be changed with sufficient will of the people. Circumventing them because you don't agree with it is anarchy.
  
  What is the perfect solution to keep this country together? Should everyone just ignore everything, allow everything, and let those without a vested interest in the welfare of this nation determine our fate???

A few points: getting a seat on a board is not the same as controlling the company; why be scared of a British firm anyway -- a British one for years handled security at many U.S.Ports, and "Chavez Red?"   As I've said in the very first comment posted here, I agree with you on CSX. If
  it's just one seat on a board of twelve, it's appropriate for an investor with
  significant interest in the company to want a say. But according to NY Times,
  there are five seats involved here, and the means by which the shares were
  acquired were through subterfuge to circumvent disclosure. Perhaps there are
  more than one issue at play--certainly something ugly brewing at CSX. British
  or not, it bears watching, and I for one am glad Dobbs is on the job and doing
  something about it.

  should be even larger and more aware of what is really occurring in the United States. He isn't the only person with influence looking out for our welfare. Yes, American citizen's welfare; not illegal immigrants or the Brits or anyone else.
  
  Business is global and important to our economy's growth. It is also political. The Brits, however, are not someone we can truly trust; nor are illegal immigrants. Neither have ever been. Consider this and history: would you bank on them? Enough said.
  
  Even one seat on a board merits concern and consideration. Why? Influence. Isn't that what the seat partially represents, after all? Accordingly, it is in our best interest to be concerned and ask questions. We must be and remain proactive. Others will not and when they don't, influence wins. This isn't always in our best interest.
  
  Please consider your responsibilities as an American citizen. Speaking intelligently about them is only part of the answer. Meaningful dialog and educating liberals beyond their narrow-minded approach and outlook is also an important part of it. From the looks of this message board, we are doing well.
