    Worst Sales Manager?

What would have made him a much better sales manager? One simple thing. He could have warned them well in advance that he would shoot them in the head if they asked for commissions. Setting performance expectations well in advance of performance reviews is simply good form. It prevents misunderstandings that can lead to tragic results, as we can see from this story. Clear expectations are great motivators...they can motivate employees to perform to expectation, or motivate them to seek employment elsewhere.

This is the funniest comment I've read since I started this blog. I love it!

If you click on the Digg link at the bottom of the post, you'll see some comments from somebody who didn't think this article was appropriate. Putting aside the weirdness of voting for something and then saying that it's stupid, I'd like to address his complaint, which is that this post wasn't useful enough as something to share with the salesforce. I think it all depends on who you are and the personalities in the sales team. If you're the type of manager where the reps wonder if you might go postal someday, uh, no, I wouldn't share this story with them. But if the sales team has a sense of perspective, why not give them a link to "man am I glad I don't work for that guy" kind of story.
