No-Tech Travel Tip
I drag with me all the most recent issues of business magazines: BusinessWeek, Fortune, Forbes, Selling Power, Sales and Marketing Management, etc. I read the articles of interest in each one first. Then I pick an article about a subject that I have not been interested in (or know much about) up to that point. I typically learn something new. I tear out any pages where additional action is required (look on websites, writers' other pieces, new subjects to explor on the Internet, etc.) My goal is to come back to the office with none of the magazines I took with me.

I keep a binder clip in my suitcase to close the room darkening blinds completely in hotel rooms. They always seem to close just enought to let in an annoying shaft of light.

My favorite travel tip... DON"T TRAVEL. For well over two decades I have been involved in consulting and sales consulting jobs that required extensive national and global travel. With the increasing cost of travel in both time and hard dollars, The last two years I have gone on a campaign within my company to reduce travel as much as possible by challenging the reason for and value to be obtained from the travel.
We have found that in over 50% of the situations the travel could be eliminated or replace with well managed virtual tools with little or no effect on our efficiency and productivity or customer service.
By eliminating these trips, We have a better more rested frame of mind and now feel like we are adding more value for our clients. so next time you feel compelled to travel, ask yourself at least twice if the trip can be avoided and the consequences. Then get serious about learning when and how to use the variety of virtual desktop tools that are proliferating the workplace.

RE: What's Your Favorite Travel Tip?
I like to bring all of my trade magazines with me and go through them in the plane to find new ideas. I rip them out and have enough material for many meetings to come.
I also like to load up my laptop with some games. I find that working in the airport and plane is impossible with cramped conditions, noise, frustration and fatigue.
However, playing games in the hotel and airport passes the time and keeps me focused on something. It also keeps me from eating out of boredom which lead to an extra 10-15 lbs.
Most importantly, travel size toilettries. It is a hassle putting them in a separate bag but the freedom to change flights is beyond ESSENTIAL -

This may sound simplistic and very un-tech but my most valuable accessory is the small eight inch extension cord that I bought at Radio Shack. In hotel rooms where plugs are at a premium or in an airport during a flight delay, I can locate one plug and plug in the laptop, the cell phone and earpiece charger.

I like
I like that one, need to pick up one of those.... Outlets are such a premium at airports, I never understand that.

Wear flip-flops through security. I have splurged on comfortable heels, but no heel is comfortable walking through PHX.
