Sales Training in Ireland
This is quite funny but very true. I'm a sales trainer based in Ireland and on the web at http://www.btbtraining.com. One of the first things I try to get new salespeople to do is identify where they all ready use selling skills in their everyday lives. Keep up the good work.

RE: Where ELSE is Sales Experience Useful?
Sales has helped me in many ways. Of course in family matters similar to yours. While I do not have kids yet I do have a use for sales in my uses of "persuasion" for family matters. And it does work for our newphews and nieces. Just the other day we had a sleepover with a 5 year old in the family. She wanted all unhealthy food. I told her there was nothing in the fridge except some red grapes.
That didnt meet her needs, so I took plenty out put them in a bowl and slowly ate them. Really soon she joined me at the table to share in the grapes.
I often use this ploy to build rapport. I always show up to meetings early. When the client sees me waiting they tend to feel bad and not want to leave me there. It leads to some great conversation and rapport building prior to the actual meeting. Works like a charm.
It is also useful in purchasing things, negotiating is a great skill all around... -

I always chuckle when someone says, "Oh, I could NEVER be a salesperson!" The fact is that everyone sells, every day. We sell our ideas. We sell our desirability as a friend, as an employee, as a mate (or prospective mate). What they really mean is, "I could never be what I PERCEIVE a salesperson to be," by which they usually mean "someone who manipulates someone else into buying something regardless of whether the purchase is in their best interests." The fact is, I couldn't be one of those either!

In every way. In returning an item at the store, getting a billing statement corrected over the phone, getting information in general has a technique to it very much like the sales process. Who is the right person to talk to, what is trying to be accomplished, resolving it to the satisfaction you were trying to acheive.
