    Motivation

An actress having a problem with her role turned to her director--Alfred Hitchcock with the question, "what is my motivation" to which he replied "My Dear, I am paying your salary!"

Motivation - what do you want?

I agree. Here is another way to be more positive or optimistic

Focus on what you want - not on what you dont want, and say it from a positive point of view.. For example -Instead of saying
    - I dont want any negative events to happen today.
    say ..
    - Today will be great because all of the events that happen today will help me get to where I want to be.

    RE: Motivation: The Gurus Speak!

If we don't allow ourselves to speak and think negatively, are we still real?

Thank you for performing a genuine public service by bringing together all the
ego-occupied, self-centered, post-New Age BS in one place. The "gurus" have
always played to those who continue to believe that we live in an an
anthropomorphic universe. Getting ahead is getting the message that it's all
    about the customer.

    yes but....

I could not agree more that it is all about the customer but unless you are positive and motivated there will be no customers. This is the path to getting and keeping customers.

    Different subjects

I'm not sure that the gurus (I agree they can be a tad annoying) are saying that keeping yourself motivated is sufficient to make a sale. I think they're saying that keeping motivated is a pre-condition to being effective at selling. You still need specific sales skills, empathy, rapport, and a focus on the customer. But it's hard to do those things if you feel like crap and would rather be playing World of Warcraft.

    RE: Motivation: The Gurus Speak!

One of my favorite exerpts from The Art Of War by Sun Tzu ...
"If you know the enemy and you know yourself, you need not fear the result of 100 battles..."
Motivation usually follows action, so I like to start my day reviewing the obstacles, or "enemies" I may face (like e-mail, and negative talk) and being prepared for them when they raise their ugly heads.
I find that motivating as well as the many suggestions you listed.
    Thanks
