motivated
Do it now!! That is something I need to remind myself everyday. I spend a lot of time doing the things you described above but I can only read motivational and sales advice for so long. Sooner or later I have to just do it! Instead of just staring at the computer thinking I really should make some prospecting calls...JUST DO IT!! Once you start it is hard to stop.

RE: How to Get Motivated?
What a great question! I start every morning with a can of cold caffeine (I admit it, I'm a Diet Coke addict). Then I go through my email and read all the blogs like this one. I spend about 30 to 45 minutes of each day reading about sales, leadership, human resources and recruitment issues. This has been such a valuable tool no only in my work but in my personal development to become a better leader.
Thank you for the information and the confirmation that my little routine is worth expanding.

RE: How to Get Motivated?
Every morning is a little different, but for the most part I start my day by jumping out of bed, putting my gym clothes on, palying with the dog, grabbing all my stuff for the gym to get ready then out the door!I listen to my favorite morning comedians which come on at 5am till i get to the gym, work out,(racquetball in the morning is awesome for getting your day started) ps. by the way, play with someone thats fun!!! then off to work I go... Once i get to work, I read my BNET blog and get on the phones. Days that I don't go to the gym start off a little slower, I highly suggest it for getting energized!

get going
I have to say, if I didn't go to the gym first thing in the morning, it would be nearly impossible to get going. I sneak out of the house at 5am, either lift heavy or spin, then go to work. I drink the equivalent of 2 "quads" at starbucks (major caffeine junkie), eat something made with egg whites, then hit the blogs looking for something to post about in my blog. The workout and espresso wake my body up - reading good minds on sales and marketing wake my brain up. When its time to start making calls, I am pretty much ready to go. xoxoxo johnonsales

Motivation
I agree with Sassy SG and John OS that going to the gym gets my day physically going. I swim 1/2 mile every morning before work and I am typically less energetic on days I cannot go swimming for some reason. But what motivates me to sell is twofold: FEAR and HUNGER. I am a consultant who sells his own services. So I am both sales and production. When I look at the sales board and see not much down the pike for the next three months I get extremely concerned about my next paycheck or one in the not too distant future and I find myself dialing old clients and calling potential new buyers. My grandfather once told me, "Fear is good if you channel it properly." Do I hear an amen?

Motivation can be a problem
Well, I think that motivation can come only if we know what we want and what can bring us satisfaction.Without this not much can help.My only advice would be to find something that satisfies you in both of your lives - I mean your personal and proffesional life, then there would be some kind of urge forcing you to live it and to like it.It's easier for me to write these things then to live according to them, but if we are loosing our motivation, isn't there time for change?

RE: How to Get Motivated?
Some years ago, I asked myself why I worked - why I did what I do? Not for money per se, but what I can do with the money that is left over after staying alive.
For me, it is travel. I work to subsidize my travel habit. I love going to new places, experiencing new cultures, and doing things I would never do at home.
For motivation, I think about all the good things about my last trip, and all the things I plan to do on my next trip - once I have managed to complete this deal. -

Healthy thoughts more difficult when fit?
Did I read this right?:
"Healthy thoughts are more difficult to generate inside a healthy body."
I agree with the rest of the Physical Conditioning paragraph, but the line that gets it going just looks wrong to me. -

Ouch!
What scares me is that thousands of people presumably read that paragraph and didn't see the typo. Including me, and I not only read it, but wrote it. It probably didn't get noticed because its intended to be a statement of an obvious truism and most people simply skimmed the truism and didn't notice that it actually said the opposite.
Anyway, I corrected the sentence. Thanks. -

Hate to be one of those people...
But I did actually see this typo but I think most of us knew what you meant!

RE: How to Get Motivated?
I believe the most significant element in your makeup is focus. Most people think that is simply thinking about something. No, no, no. That is simply the start. It's thinking ONLY about what you are either doing or contemplating doing.
Hoiw do you get rid of the buzz and chatter in your head and focus, laser sharp, on the importances. Here's what works for me.
I do martial arts (Kung Fu) and there is a form (ritualized actions) called Silum Tao. This means 'little thought.' As soon as my feet hit the ground from my bed I do the form. After two minutes my mind is completely clear, I am physically alert and ready to crash through walls.
Use what you know, perhaps yoga, or meditation or simple exercise.
It works!

RE: How to Get Motivated?
Geoffrey,
I agree fully, and want to add some.
In my opinion motivation can be defined as 'lot of good will or energy to do'. It is a direct result of an objective. We can see this in biological objectives, that raise themselves without effort, like hunger and thirst, once there, we get all this 'motivation' to achieve them.
So I think the first most important step to be taken towards motivation, is to find out our objective in life. And just like Sun and Moon, we too have clear objective, and the most motivated is the one who most understands the objective.
The next logical step is to get knowledge to achieve the objective. This helps us get closer and therefore adds to our motivatation. Next is body, without any doubt knowledeg cannot be acted upon using a sick body, so we must eat, sleep, and excercise to keep our bodies in top condition.
A man (our a woman) with clear objetive, right knowledge, and healthy body will change everything in time, surroundings and all. It just takes one.
Regards

You are all correct! Thank you!
I've never taken the time to read these blogs before and I am glad that I took the time today! You all are absolutely correct! I have been really lagging and I know it is because I am not looking at my goals everyday and have not been exercising (I used the don't have time excuse.) This blog has definitely motivated me and I will use the suggestions noted to increase my sales!
Thanks everyone! -

RE: How to Get Motivated?
According to me the first 5 mins after waking up governs how motivated a person feels. If you wake up with a Million Dollar feeling then i guess you will have a fabulous day.

Waking up
This is extremely true. Tony Robbins recommends jumping out of bed (even if you don't feel like it) and do about ten powerful body movements with affirmations of your personal power. The times in my life when I've done this have always been periods of great growth.

RE: How to Get Motivated?
Early rising is a necessity. Up at 5:30, the minute I awake, I step into my living room, grab my journal notebook and start writing stream of consciousness (Anything that comes to mind even if it is gibberish) for 3 long-handed pages.
This get all the stress and issues out there before I start my day. -

RE: How to Get Motivated?
When I'm resistant to moving forward, I picture how lousy it feels to be outright cheated; when I'm there, I remind myself that I get to choose deprivation or motivation; I picture where I want to be in one year from today and where I want to be in 10 years from today; I breathe very deep several times while saying a prayer of forgiveness and healing for everyone, especially enemies and myself; then create a time management game plan for the day, including time to work out, eat well, and ask for the sale.

Keep people around you that have a positive feeling toward life's issues.
People with issues will just drag you down. -
