Need to sketch these in my playbook
Great ideas for the various situations. Of course, some variations will exist based on the individual(s) you are dealing with. But then you should at least know how you co-workers react. As a guideline, great for the interns to the company.

RE: Top Seven Workplace Plays and Maneuvers
Good stuff! Currently I work in a very small (read 4 people, 3 besides me) and taking the time to listen to a co-worker's life stories, gentle teasing, sharing a joke, etc., all make life much more humanistic during the 8 hours we share in a common space. These may not be people that I would choose to socialize with outside of work, but sometimes just listening can make all the difference in the world to them, and it comes back to you when you have an idea you want supported.
The other thing I realize is that sometimes even managers appreciate when you are honest and let them know you're having an off day or are under stress. Most managers really want to help. Having been a supervisor in the past who cared about her employees, those same individuals wanted to stay in touch for decades to come. -

I believe when people practice true communication and understand the other persons position and viewpoints, that is when you make breakthroughs and get the cooperation needed to get the job done!

RE: Top Seven Workplace Plays and Maneuvers
In the negative view, office politics is Machiavellian, especially when everyone has to cooperate with a team leader who doesn't act as one but still has been given all the support, from top down, at the expense of people getting too hurt to like the work.

I believe that office structures, can reform their boundaries by processes initiated from within. Charity begins at home.We need to respect and I mean in the literal sense 'respect' the set of values, assumptions, beliefs and expectations our peers hold.
Whether it is the Team leader or the Senior Manager,, or anyone in the organisation , don't be politically correct cause they never will and never did control your future. If they dont like you opposing their ideas - well too bad cause some else will and may be you can offer more then--to the implementation of the idea..
Success to me is opportunity meeting talent.. Dont bother about the politics it will always be there... -
