  Turning Problems Into Profits

  Great thread to have started!
  
  There's an engineer in Dallas whose 'wasteful' tinkering with a flow problem he had to deal with everyday, almost got him fired. Now his oil delivery spout invention is used by almost major oil company in the world.
  
  Caterpillar took their own internal logistics problem and created Caterpillar Logistics which now spans 25 countries and six continents.
  
  When it comes to turning problems into profits, the most innovative CEOs encourage intrapreneurship and aren't waiting for "the next big thing" to come out of R&D.

  Brian, In a sense, yes, Googlers are like intrapreneurs. But they've got it a little easier than other intrapreneurs, since innovation is built into every job at Google. (The famous 20 percent rule gives employees time for tinkering.) For maximum inspiration, we chose to focus on subjects who had to show a little extra chutzpah to get their ideas heard.

Professional women's basketball is a relatively young phenomenon, and lots of people think that WNBA salaries are far too low. For instance, some were talking combined WNBA salaries for an entire squad here are less than single NBA players. They aren't likely to need payday loans, though ? league minimum salary is about $50 thousand ? but it's still enough of a deterrent for college players to find careers in the work world rather than enter the WNBA draft. The WNBA hasn't been nearly as profitable as the NBA, and their viewership isn't enormous. However, the athletic commitment is arduous, so perhaps it would be worth some cash advances to raise and WNBA salaries ratings.
