  Not just for memos

  This is good advice for more than just memos. You can use this for stating your opinion in meetings, giving presentations, even just conversations with employees.
  
  The most important point is to state you subject/issue/question up front. This gives your audience a context for the discussion. They are much more likely to then pay attention to your background information.

  Writing the Killer Idea Pitch

  It was a wonderful experience reading the two versions. If the first version is read in isolation, one would think "What's wrong with it?" Had there been not the boxes mentioning what was wrong with each section, we would have said, that is the way we normally see. However, the second version, point by point overcomes the shortfalls in the first version and makes the proposal more acceptable. Kudos for the deep insight into the expressions and their hidden meanings.

  You are bang on. Excellent. In the company I work, the executives really want to get to the bare bones early as they have lots to do.

  I agree with Anandateertha's comment that it was helpful to see the 2 different versions. Upon reading the article, I might have to go back to my own blog entries and shake things up a bit.
  
  That being said, I love Sbaba's short & sassy comment. Bang on...is that a Britishim? Love the colorful language. Makes the comments as interesting as the article!

  Thanks for the great article. As the other comments have pointed out, these same concepts should be used for most verbal and written communications. I especially liked the closing sentences - this will really generate some action.

  Now that's a killer pitch

  It's important to quote other reports and support all your points with research. It's even more important if you can take some of your managers own words and put it in the article. Your manager will be less likely to attack his own words then the words of others.

  Good before and after comparison.
  
  But the best business axiom that came out of the 20th century came out of the movie Jerry Maguire, where Rod Tidwell said to Jerry Maguire: Just show me the money Jerry, just show me the f*#king money!

  Bookmark-worthy! The format is a great way of illustrating the points. Writing like this is not easy, but you show why it's worth it.
  
  There's one more you could add - the wrong one starts out with "I recently read" (yawn) while the right starts with "As you know" (read on for a compliment).
  
  I hadn't heard of BNET until today when a colleague tweeted this. I'll be back...

  The most important part of this message is the subject line, #1. It's like a headline and compells you to read further.
  
  Today, no one has time or patience to search for the main message buried in lines of paragraph text. So bullet wherever possible. Your message will be clear and memorable.
  
  My advice to this writer would be to bullet or highlight the main message, #3, because it's the solution and that's what the reader is trying to find. This works for all communications. So, if you're speaking, think in bullets as well.
