From past 5 years our boss has chaired more than 10-12 meetings with top managmement for coming out with the new ideas for better utilizatation of Computer technology for accreditation process. But most of the meeting end with good ideas but never implemented.and those implemented does not helping the end user. it is just furstating to attend another meeting and talk for next project. What is the solution for this.?

    Brainstorming

I am a university professor and organizational trainer. I have facilitating many brainstorming meetings over the years. I like your suggestions, and just want to add one point I have found helpful. When writing the participants' ideas up on the flip chart or white board, use their own words. If they see the same words they have spoken written up, it gives the participants a feeling of satisfaction and validation. It can allow them to relinquish a tight hold on a position in a negotiating session. On the other hand, when the facilitator "interprets" the suggestion and writes up something different, the participant often feels discounted. The interpretation is frequently off the mark, and can have a very negative effect on the person's subsequent participation in the process. I have seen this happen a great many times, even in sessions run by very experienced facilitators. Believe me, it makes a big difference.

    Structure of meeting

I had an idea about the timing of the brainstorming meeting while reading this article.

    1) Set the meeting before lunch; this would be the first part of the meeting. In this encourage the brainstorming without any limit on the ideas.
    2) While breaking for lunch, suggest everyone to think up of any new ideas during lunchtime.
3)Set up the next part of the meeting after lunch, when you can convert the ideas into a more practical framework.

    brainstorm sessions in GOVT

yes mostly brain storming sessions are a waste of time. These sessions are held by the senior officer to decorate his annual reports and impress that he has adopted a participatory managemnt culture as per theGOVT policy ...etc.

Before participation one must see whats the power/authority level of execution with the boss.only if the subject and the execution authority(including resource mobilisation )matches .. participation to be accepted.
