Pre-determined roles
There's a chinese phrase that people mistakenly call "fate," but it really means pre-determination (usually not by the deities.)
That's hard to overcome when trying to adapt to others at work. -

RE: Working around Personality Clashes
I think it is important to take a step back and look at how the behavior and feelings are impacting the organization. If the behavior completely disregards the overall good of the organization, the clash is a struggle for power. I see a struggle for power a much more serious issue than a personality clash that is based upon a different set of perceived values. Individuals seeking power will have a negative impact on themselves, as well as other productive non-argumentative personalities within the organization. This can hinder employee faith and cause the more self-sacrificing employees to think they will never be recognized or appreciated in this environment.

RE: Working around Personality Clashes
Out of synch with current thinking on Emotional IQ (author - Daniel
Goleman) and legislation in many states around bullying, often
described as a personality clash (see Dr. Namie). The point of view
expressed flies in the face of many excellent articles on how to keep
and motivate employees and ways to handle conflict.

This is an excellent article and is timely reminder on how we should handle conflict surrounding personality clashes. I will share this with my work colleagues.
