US mobile operator Verizon is rumoured to be testing a 4G iPhone on its unfinished 4G mobile broadband network with a view to releasing the next generation handset as early as next year. If true, the rumours suggest Apple is considering switching US partners when it releases a next generation iPhone. This could be because Verizon is several years ahead of exclusive US iPhone carrier AT&T in setting up a 4G network.
Mobile blog Fone Frenzy claims that Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam has been visiting both Google and Apple in California to discuss tests. Verizon is the carrier for Motorola’s Droid handset, which is set to launch with an ad campaign aimed directly at Apple that includes the tagline ?iDon’t?. The handset runs Google’s Android operating system and is thought to be the most heavily Google-influenced handset to date.
