Microsoft is bringing Sky TV to the Xbox 360, allowing users to watch movies, sports and other programmes from their consoles. An existing Sky TV subscription is not required, but users must pay a monthly fee to access Microsoft’s specialised Sky Player.

Xbox owners will be able to interact with friends through ?avatar parties? in which cartoon representations of the users will appear on-screen while they are watching the same film or football match. Users will also be able to update their Facebook and Twitter statuses through the console.

?We’re not only extending the walls of your living room beyond your home to your friends in different corners of the world. We’re creating the definitive social network,? claims Microsoft vice president John Schappert.
