Sony Music’s catalogue will soon be available to buy on indie music retail site Amie Street after the New York-based startup signed its first major label deal. However, Sony will not be using Amie Street’s dynamic pricing model, in which songs start off free but fluctuate in price over time based on demand. Instead, all Sony songs will be available at set prices of USD0.69, USD0.99 or USD1.29, depending on their popularity.
?It wasn’t a hard decision for us. This isn’t affecting all the other dynamically priced music on the site,? says Amie Street co-founder Joshua Boltuch. ?Sony Music obviously has the option to experiment with dynamic pricing at their discretion. Clearly we would love to do that with them.?
Amie Street, founded in 2006, allows artists to upload their own music and currently boasts more than 1.5m songs. It has previously signed content deals with independent labels including Orchard.
