Walt Disney Studios has signed a three-screen deal with Virgin Media to provide content via digital TV, the internet and on mobile platforms. Virgin Media will offer over 300 hours of children's TV on-demand via the Disney XD channel, as well as feature-length films such as High School Musical and Camp Rock.

A Virgin Media spokesperson says the TV and on-demand content will be available in the next couple of weeks, while online content will be launched in 2010, followed by the mobile content. "We're particularly excited about the potential for Disney XD," says Disney's VP for the UK and Ireland Boel Ferguson. He claims the channel has "a multitude of content designed to be viewed at home or on the move".

This is the first partnership of its kind for Virgin Media, suggesting that it hopes to position itself as an all-encompassing on-demand operator. Executive director of content acquisition at Virgin Media Katharine Burns says "We've been a pioneer in developing TV services and our three-screens deal with Disney is a perfect example of how innovation can benefit consumers and enhance their viewing experience."
