VeriSign is selling its mobile messaging business to Syniverse Technologies for USD175m in cash. The unit is the latest in a series of non-core assets that VeriSign has sold as part of plans to concentrate on its core businesses of internet infrastructure, domain registry, online security and identity protection. ?We are pleased to continue making progress on our divestiture programme with this latest agreement with Syniverse,? says CEO Mark McLaughlin.
VeriSign acquired its mobile message unit in 2006 from 3united Mobile Solutions for an estimated USD65m. The unit will be combined with Syniverse’s NextSM Advanced Messaging hub. The transaction is subject to certain closing conditions and regulatory approvals, and VeriSign has not said when it expects the sale to close.
