Texas-based Convey Computer has raised USD24.1m in a Series B funding round led by Braemar Energy Ventures. Existing investors CenterPoint Ventures, Intel Capital, InterWest Partners, Rho Ventures and Xilinx also participated in the round. The firm, which has raised USD39.3m to date, is developing hybrid-core computers. Convey claims its system combines high performance with reduced energy requirements. The firm will use the funding to increase production capacity and geographical presence.
?A modern data centre can cost hundreds of millions of dollars, with power and cooling costs making up half of the annual operating costs,? says Braemar principle, Jiong Ma. ?Every watt required to power a server requires another watt to cool it?One rack of Convey servers can replace multiple racks of traditional application servers, which means that customers can realise dramatically lower power and cooling costs.?
