Chinese computer builder Hon Hai Precision Industry is reportedly constructing tablet computers for Apple. The device is described as an enlarged iPod with a 10-inch screen and 3G data service.
A report appearing in Taiwanese newspaper Apple Daily suggests the model will hit the market in September or October 2009, although the "foreign media" are not expecting it until Q1 2010. The news follows claims published in the Financial Times that Apple is planning to release a tablet before Christmas.
Rumours of a tablet have been circulating for years, but market analysts are now more confident of its imminent arrival. Apple is likely to target the netbook market with its new device, with a particular emphasis on users who enjoy film, music and e-books.
