Publicis Groupe CEO Maurice Levy says his company is interested in acquiring Microsoft’s digital ad agency Razorfish if it is up for sale. ?We consider that it is a fine company with some interesting advantages. They fit quite well with our strategy,? says Levy. However, he adds ?but it’s not a must have and we won’t do something stupid.?
Microsoft is reportedly considering selling Razorfish less than two years after it bought the agency. The acquisition was part of Microsoft’s USD6bn purchase of aQuantitive. The slump in the online ad market, plus a conflict of interest between Razorfish and Microsoft Advertising, is believed to be behind the plan to sell.
Ad companies WPP and Publicis have publicly announced their interest, while Omnicom says it is looking at several deal opportunities. Analysts estimate the deal could be worth around USD700m and include commitments to use Microsoft’s ad technology or buy space on its websites.
