Spiderman franchise director Sam Raimi is lined up to make a film based on multiplayer online game World of Warcraft. Blizzard Entertainment, which owns the Warcraft brand, will collaborate on the film with Hollywood studio Legendary Pictures. Warner Brothers is financing the film, which has does not yet have a confirmed cast or release date.
Raimi previously directed the cult Evil Dead franchise and has recently won critical acclaim for horror film Drag me to Hell. The Warcraft film will be co-produced by Charles Roven, who worked on Batman film The Dark Knight.
World of Warcraft is the most popular online role-playing game in the world with more than 11.5m subscribers and has proved to be one of Activision Blizzard’s most lucrative assets.
