EMC is raising its bid for de-duplication and back-up vendor Data Domain to USD2.1bn, after Data Domain rejected its USD1.8bn offer. EMC hopes to win the bidding war against rival NetApp, which is offering USD1.9bn for Data Domain.
NetApp says it has already cleared all regulatory hurdles with the Federal Trade Commission, as well as with the SEC. A Data Domain stockholder vote is scheduled for August 14 to decide on the proposed merger with NetApp.
If Data Domain agrees on a merger with EMC, it will have to pay USD57m in termination fees to NetApp. EMC’s offer is due to expire on July 17.
