Japanese mobile giant DoCoMo is buying a 35% stake in mobile video company PacketVideo for USD45.5m in a deal intended to ?strengthen DoCoMo’s position in advanced music and video services in Japan?.

San Diego-based PacketVideo, part of NextWave Wireless, has worked with DoCoMo since its launch in 1998. The partnership has seen PacketVideo’s multimedia player installed in 90 of DoCoMo’s handset models.

The company also provides Google with a multimedia subsystem for Android and has developed a live video broadcasting technology for mobile platforms.
