Palm looks set to announce a deal with O2 that will see the mobile operator become the exclusive carrier for the Palm Pre smartphone in the UK. A report in the Guardian claims O2 saw off fierce competition from rival Orange to be the only seller of the Pre when it comes to the UK later this year.

Palm is also reportedly set to reveal further details about the smartphone’s UK launch, with a press conference scheduled for next week. The Pre went on sale in the US in June, and has received largely favourable reviews, with analysts suggesting it could shift more than 1m units in its first quarter.
