Virgin Media signs VoD film deal with Universal

Virgin Media has signed a deal with Universal Pictures to launch an on-demand film service in the UK called PictureBox. The service will be available for GBP5 (USD8.27) and will allow Virgin's 3.6m subscribers to access a catalogue of 28 films. The 28 film selection will be refreshed each week with seven new titles added to the line-up every Friday.

PictureBox is already available through BT Vision, Top Up TV and Tiscali. Belinda Menendez, president of Universal's International TV Distribution, says: ?Our reach in the UK has now increased more than fivefold and the service has expanded internationally since [its] initial launch less than three years ago.?

Titles available on PictureBox includeThe Bourne Ultimatum, The Holiday, Children of Men, Scarface and E.T. Most titles will also be available in HD.
