Google is launching a new website which collates volunteer events from around the US to allow users to find community and volunteering opportunities in their local area.

Allforgood.org detects users’ locations via their IP address and links them up with local charities looking for helpers. Software engineers, designers and developers from Google, Craigslist, UCLA, YouTube and FanFeedr have contributed to the venture. The project is a result of Google’s 20% scheme, where engineers are allowed to spend up to 20% of their working day on projects that interest them.
