Google is investing a further USD2.6m in 23andMe, the privately-held biotech startup launched by the wife of Google co-founder Sergey Brin.
The deal raises Google’s total investment in the firm to USD7m. Google continues to hold a minority interest in 23andMe, and has also agreed to lease some of its office space to the company.
Co-founded by Anne Wojcicki in 2006, 23andMe charges customers USD399 for a scan and analysis of their DNA. The results can show if a person has a genetic predisposition to certain diseases, such as Parkinson’s.
