Netherlands-based Philips is partnering with Dutch horticultural specialist BVB Substrates to develop LED lighting for greenhouse-based plant cultivation. Lighting is often needed to boost the quality and output of crops grown in greenhouses, in particular during the winter months. The process requires large amounts of energy and the pair plan to apply Philips’ LED technology to reduce energy consumption and improve crop quality and yield.
