Korean device manufacturer Samsung has extended its existing chip licence agreement with US storage specialist SanDisk for another seven years. The extension is set at a lower royalty rate than previously and Samsung is committed to shipping a certain amount of its chips to SanDisk. Samsung pays around USD350m a year in royalties to SanDisk for its technology, which is integrated into devices including cameras and audio players.
The agreement is effective from August 14, the date the firms’ current licensing and supply agreement expires. The extension will run until August 2016.
