Google says it has signed deals totalling ?upwards of seven figures? for its TV advertising platform. Google TV Ads director Mike Steib says the firm has sealed deals with ad agencies such as Deutsch and Saatchi & Saatchi, as well as with advertisers such as Coldwell Banker.
To date, Google TV Ads has forged ad deals with EchoStar, NBC Universal's cable channels and Bloomberg TV, but has failed to become a major player in the TV ad market.
A seven-figure deal represents just a small slice of the USD70bn TV advertising industry. However, it is a significant step for the search giant’s side project. Google TV Ads is designed to provide an automated ad buying service enabling firms to book space at short notice. Nevertheless, the deals will help reassure Google that the service has a future. Google pulled the plug on its radio and print ad networks earlier this year because they weren’t performing well. However, the firm is persevering with its last remaining foray in the traditional ad market.
