PC maker Acer plans to produce an Android-based smartphone before the end of the year as well as nine smartphones running Microsoft’s Windows Mobile.
The world’s third-largest PC maker says it aims to capture between 6% and 7% of the handset market within the next four years, driven by surging demand for smartphones. The Taiwanese manufacturer has experienced impressive growth in recent years on the back of rising demand for netbooks.
Acer only entered the mobile handset market this year following the acquisition of Eten Information Systems in 2008.
