Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is dismissing speculation that the software giant may acquire business software developer SAP as a ?random rumour?.

?I have nothing to say about rumours of acquisitions ... positively or negatively,? says Ballmer.

Both IBM and Microsoft have been linked to the German firm, but SAP CEO Leo Apothekar insists that SAP should remain independent.

Speculation that Microsoft is planning a bid for the company gained momentum following an unprecedented bond issue by Microsoft this week. Microsoft is seeking debt funding despite having extensive cash reserves.

Ballmer also remains vague about the possibility of more job cuts in future, saying that any decisions will depend on the future of the global economy.
