Facebook is officially integrating Adobe Systems’ Flash multimedia platform into its network, making it easier for developers to build Flash-based Facebook apps.
Many Facebook apps already use Flash, but until now the network has not offered support for developers. The release of ActionScript 3 Client Library will mean even those without extensive technical expertise will be able to build Flash-based apps for Facebook.
The news comes as Microsoft releases its Silverlight software developer’s kit, allowing developers to create apps for MySpace which use Microsoft’s alternative to Flash.
Both releases are timed to coincide with this week’s Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco.
