BlackBerry maker Research In Motion (RIM) is buying Certicom for USD106m after the security software firm accepted an improved deal and rejected a lesser offer from VeriSign.

?The board of directors of Certicom has concluded that the RIM transaction is in the best interests of the corporation," says Jeffrey Chisholm, chairman of Certicom's board. Certicom, whose software has been certified for government communications by the US National Security Agency, can still turn down RIM for an unsolicited offer subject to a termination fee of USD3.21m.
