Yahoo! is developing a news programme with Twentieth Television called Yahoo! Buzz. The show will be based on Yahoo!’s website of the same name, which allows users to vote for which news stories should feature most prominently. Ratings created by users’ votes on the site will dictate the top 10 stories on the half-hour show.
Twentieth hopes to test the show on channels in the next few months and it may be syndicated as early as this autumn. Former MTV host Ananda Lewis is in talks to co-host the programme.
Twentieth Television, which is part of News Corp, is set to benefit from sharing upfront costs with Yahoo!, as well as the Internet portal’s recognisable brand and strong user base. The company distributes many shows made by its siblings at News Corp including America’s Most Wanted and South Park.
?It’ll truly be what people are buzzing about,? claims Bob Cook, the president and COO of Twentieth Television.
The stories attracting the most votes on Yahoo! Buzz today appear to reflect the mainstream media’s concerns. Barack Obama’s first days in office dominate the top spots.
