US-based semiconductor manufacturer Cree will supply light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to South Korea’s LG Display. The LEDs will be used in LG’s flat screen products and are said to be more energy efficient than LCD panels which use CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lamp) backlights. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
Last year Cree acquired LED Lighting fixtures in a USD103m deal.
