Fujitsu is reportedly selling its loss-making hard drive disk (HDD) business to Toshiba for an undisclosed price. What Toshiba is buying is unclear, but HDD head manufacturing is not included, as Fujitsu is terminating its HDD head manufacturing operation in Nagano, Japan.
The global HDD industry is seeing a contraction in demand, causing the two top HDD manufacturers - Seagate and Western Digital - to cut costs and staff.
