Mobile advertising specialist Amobee Media Systems has raised an undisclosed amount of funding from Motorola Ventures and Cisco. Existing investors Telefonica, Vodafone, Accel Partners, Globespan and Sequoia Capital also participated in the round. US-based Amobee serves advertising embedded into mobile content, sharing revenues with operators. The firm delivers ads through mobile videos, music, messaging, games and WAP.
"Mobile advertising is rapidly emerging as a key enabler for consumer adoption of the mobile internet and media," says Motorola Ventures MD Reese Schroeder. "[Through Amobee] we can provide flexible business models and options for our carrier partners and consumers."
The investment comes after Amobee partnered with Spain's Telefonica in June to launch a global server that distributes mobile ads in different countries. Earlier this year, Amobee inked a deal with mobile open-source software firm Funambol to develop a free, ad-supported email service on mobile phones.
In separate news, Amobee is hiring Gary Schofield, previously president of networks at Digital Chocolate, as president and COO.
