AMD begins certifying game-capable PCs

AMD is launching a marketing venture designed to attract buyers to PCs that are tailored to run high-end games. The chipmaker's AMD Game! initiative is supported by Microsoft, Acer, Alienware, Logitech and several other game industry heavyweights.AMD plans to badge mainstream desktop machines that meet certain platform requirements required for running sophisticated games. The logos will appear on systems running between US$1,000 and $2,000, says the company.Numerous PC and game industry analysts see AMD's move as an attempt by the company and its partners to position desktop computers as a viable alternative to dedicated game consoles, which are attracting an ever-growing number of casual and serious game players.
